Our Disney World Vacation, Day 1: Arrival Day

Here we go!! So the night before our trip I was up late packing and just being incredibly excited about our trip!! So, needless to say, I didn't get much sleep that night!! We woke up bright and early at 5:45 a.m.! Our flight was at 8:40 a.m. and we live about 30 minutes from the Memphis airport. So we got dressed, ate a quick breakfast (well I ended up eating mine in the car), and getting things packed into the car. There wasn't much traffic since it was a Saturday morning but we ended up leaving a little later than I had liked--so I was a little stressed! We arrived at the airport around 7:40ish and the check-in line was LONG! Usually we get into the Platinum Elite line with no wait--but they didn't have that available for some reason. So we waited and it didn't end up taking as long as we had anticipated. (thank goodness) Oh--and the family in front of us were headed to WDW as well!! Then we headed to the security line (which was SUPER LONG) but again, thought we could go through the Platinum Elite line. The man told us we couldn't use that line with our family?! OK--we've done it before--oh well. Another worker overheard him and told us to go down to the next terminal--that the security line was nonexistant down there. So we did and just walked back to our terminal (all the terminals in Memphis are connected). As we arrived at our gate, they were already boarding! YIKES!! But we made it and got settled into our seats! Whooo hoo!! We were on our way to WDW!!!

The flight took about an hour and a half and then we landed at MCO!! I took out our Magical Express booklet, looked at the map of the airport, and we were on our way!! We got down to the Magical Express line and I couldn't believe how many people I saw!
But we checked in, they scanned our Magical Express tickets, and they directed us to the Polynesian line. The line was not bad at all!

Brent & ClaireThe line started moving again and we got excited!! But when we got to the front of the line they pulled that black rope out and said we'd be on the next bus. Oh man! Oh well--so I took a pic of the sign since we were standing right beside it!
I told Brent that it was fine--it just meant that we would get on the bus first AND get front seats!! I would be able to get a decent picture of the WDW sign!! YAY!! So about 10-15 minutes later we were boarding our bus!

Claire was such a wiggleworm during the busride--she was letting her freedom go to her head!! It was quite exhausting trying to keep her still and safe!

Then I started getting excited when our driver said we were almost to the sign! I took TONS of pics to make sure I got a decent one! Here is the best I got (excuse the bugs from the bus' windshield)!We were officially in Disney World--it was so surreal!!! I wasn't sure in what order we would be dropped off at our resort but we ended up being first!!

We ended up not having to wait at all! I was nervous wondering if we had gotten the longhouse that I had requested (Tokelau) and if we just MIGHT get an upgrade?! The cast member who checked us in was really nice. She explained everything in detail to us, gave us our anniversary and first trip pins, etc. But while she talked Claire was throwing a fit (it was way past lunchtime and she was hungry--not to mention tired!). I was so embarassed and was almost in tears myself. Finally the cast member finished up and we headed to check out our room (it was ready!!!). We DID get Tokelau!! Whoo hoo!

I knew we had a 3rd floor room but that was it--would it be garden view or Magic Kingdom view? We headed up the elevator and our room was the very first room on the left--so I knew we didn't get an upgrade. Oh well!! Our room was still VERY nice!! We were surprised to see a special gift from our travel agent!!

So after we got settled I decided to see if we could get our Garden Grocer things delivered. So I called the front desk and they got me in touch with Bells Services. The front desk lady said, "Have a magical day!" Well Bells Services was not so magical for us! I called, gave the guy our name, and he checked and said he didn't have our things. I thought that was wierd as they were supposed to be delivered between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.! Hmm. . . so I checked my voicemail on my phone and had a message from GG saying they HAD delivered our groceries to Bells Services. Uggh!! So I called them back and the guy was really rude--not magical in the least! He said that he had just checked but he'd check again and call me right back. Well, I waited and waited and hear nothing! By that time we were all starving and wanting to go get something to eat. I didn't know what to do! Finally, there was a knock at the door and it was our stuff!! Thank goodness! Everything was accounted for and put away in our fridge. We headed straight over to Captain Cook's for some lunch!

I couldn't believe how much came with the meal plan!! We were so excited!! So we all chose what we wanted (I got the BBQ flatbread--YUM!!!) and sat down to eat. It was ready almost immediately! For dessert Brent had a Mickey ice cream bar!

After lunch we headed to the bus stop to catch a bus to Downtown Disney.

We waited about 15 minutes and then a bus arrived!! Once we got to Downtown Disney the first thing we did was let the girls pick Mickey ears and autograph books. Ally chose the pink and silver princess ears and I chose the red/black Minnie one for Claire. They both got their names embroidered on them! Here are some pics from our day--we just shopped and looked around.

Then we headed back to the Poly. We had planned to meetup with some friends that night at the Poly beach to watch Wishes at 10 p.m. So we just watched the Electrical Parade, walked around the Poly for awhile, and let the girls play in the sand.

So we hung out awhile and then we had to call it a night since tomorrow was our first day in the parks!! The girls fell asleep immediately!

Ready for Disney!

This will be my last post until we return from Disney! It's hard to believe that it's finally time to go after planning this trip since November!! We are all eagerly anticipating what tomorrow will bring!! And I'm not sure how much sleep I'll get tonight--I'm just too excited!! Anyway, I just wanted to share some pics from today as we prepared for our trip!

Today was my last MOPS meeting for the year and we did a gag gift and gift card exchange. This is what I won and Ally was sooo excited!! She just LOVES Tinkerbell!! (it lights up and makes sounds)

While the girls were at school I was at home packing for our trip. I organized all of their outfits into jumbo ziplock bags for each day labeling the day and the park we'd be visiting.

I am VERY indecisive so that's why I went ahead and decided which days they'd wear which outfits. I knew that if I didn't I'd wake up in the morning and waste a TON of time deciding what they'd be wearing that day. So now Brent and I can just grab the bag for the day without having to wonder what they're going to wear!!

Last Day of School

Today was Ally & Claire's last day of school. It was quite an emotional day for me since Ally is graduating from preschool and will start Kindergarten in August. I'm not sure where the time has gone?!

Ok--this has been long-awaited! (I ordered these outfits for our trip at the beginning of March) We got in at 10 p.m. last night and I stopped by my neighbor's house to get the customs (they had been delivered on Saturday while we were away in Alabama)! So we got home and I immediately opened the package and made sure everything I had ordered was there--it was--thank goodness!! And I could not be more pleased!! They all turned out BEAUTIFULLY!! Mother's Day Weekend

This year we spent Mother's Day weekend in Alabama with Brent's parents. We had a really nice visit.

Brent's cousin Julie and her husband Patrick invited us over to their house for the afternoon. Claire had the best time playing with Eli . . .

And we enjoyed talking to Julie & Patrick about our upcoming Disney trip. They have been MANY times so they had a lot of great info/tips to share with us. Then we headed home and Ally helped Nana cut the vegetables for the dinner salad.

We had a yummy dinner of steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, bread, salad, and strawberry cheescake pie. After dinner I got some good shots of Claire.

Katie (a friend of mine from the DIS board) wanted to spread some Disney magic and offered to make the girls custom autograph books for our trip!! Well they came today along with a BUNCH of other goodies!!! Thank you soooo much Katie!!! Ally was soooo excited (Claire was napping at the time). Ally has been playing with everything else since!!

More Disney Shopping

Today I went shopping with my friend Beth while the girls were at Mother's Day Out. I was in search of a bathing suit--fun, fun! Uggh! I was pleasantly surprised at how fast we found one!! First we started at JC Penney and nothing really looked right. So we headed to Macy's. I tried on a TON of suits and this is what I ended up with! This is huge for me b/c I always end up buying black suits. It's really cute on--and slimming--which is nice!!

Then after a lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings (YUM--first time to ever eat there) I headed to Target to pick up some things for the trip. Here's what I got (HSM & Princess fruit snacks, Yogos, sunscreen, disposable washcloths, Crystal Light, ponchos, and jumbo ziplock bags):Today we also received a 2-in-1 harness that I ordered for Claire for our trip. It's funny--I vowed that I would never put my kids on a "leash"--now I'm eating my words. For my sanity (and Brent's) I knew this was a must for when we stand in line without our stroller. Neither of us wanted to fight holding her--she's just too mobile and independent. So I broke down and ordered this: It's cute at least--right?! Well, Claire LOVES it! Take a look at this:

A friend of mine that embroiders/appliques made Claire some bibs and bloomers for our trip. I had given her 4 Gymbucks that I wasn't using and she offered to make these in return. I LOVE how they turned out!! She's making another pair of bloomers that matches the princess Minnie bib but she had to order more bloomers. Check them out!!

We went to Hobby Lobby today to pick out some bandanas to decorate our stroller while in Disney World (so we can spot it easily in the sea of other strollers). This is what the girls picked!

This afternoon I took Ally to see the Hannah Montana movie!! We had wanted to see it when it first came out but have been busy every weekend since. So Brent watched Claire while I took Ally to the movies. We both loved the movie and I cried several times! I think our favorite song was the "Hoedown Throwdown"--so catchy!! Disney Outfit Planning

Let me share with you some of the clothing I have so far for our Disney trip! The girls will be wearing Cinderella dresses to Ally's Bibbiti Bobbiti Boutique appointment and breakfast at Cinderella's Royal Table on May 18th. I'm surprising Ally with a new Cinderella dress (she has others that were really cheap and that are torn--I got this one on clearance at the Disney Store).

Mickey Mail!!

I'm sooooo excited!! Our Mickey Mail arrived today!!! Check it out (everything is in the folder--cute folder--huh?). There were tiny stickers all in the packet--like confetti! That's what you see on top of the folder.

And then inside the packet was this:

I just LOVE my travel agent!! This is what was included: hotel voucher, Magical Express booklet and tags, luggage tags, How To Guide 2009, and then our travel agent's extras--laminated dining itinerary with confirmation #s, laminated charts on best times to do what in each park, insider tips for each park, fun things to look for and tips for each park, 2 Tinkerbell puzzles, Cinderella temporary tatoos, and a Sleeping Beauty velvet art coloring poster. I can't WAIT to read through everything!!! Oh--and I also received some new ribbon and resins in the mail today that I found on Ebay!! I'm going to make the girls some hairbows for our trip!

So my show (Arlington in April) was today. I got there around 7:30 a.m. to set-up my booth. Brent came and helped me set-up while my mom stayed at home with the girls. Set-up went quickly. My booth was in a great location near the front where people enter--the same spot I've had the past 3 years. This year 2 of my friends that make frames were right next to me which was great!! So after I finished my booth I decided to walk around to check-out the other booths. I was shocked--there were at least 5 other bow booths that I saw!! I've always been the only one so that was very frustrating!! Ugggh! The festival started at 10:00 a.m. and the weather was gorgeous at around 80 degrees. But the wind was fierce! My tent almost blew away several times and my bow boards as well. It was crazy--I had everything zip-tied to weights, etc. and the wind broke them! Thankfully a friend of mine showed up as I was crying in frustration (I had worked soooo very hard the past few weeks staying up until all hours making these bows). Anyway, her husband helped secure my tent and boards. I was so thankful they showed up when they did! Then Brent, my girls, and my mom showed up after lunch. They stayed awhile and shopped, ate, etc. At times, the wind was so bad that I was physically holding my tent down! The festival ended at 4:00 p.m. I ended up doing fairly well but not anywhere near how I did last year. Last year I went home with only 1 board left with bows (I have 4)--not so much this year. It was somewhat disappointing. But at least I have a bunch of bows stocked--cuts down on my work now. Anyway, I was tired and sunburnt. We went out to eat with my parents and came home and watched Bedtime Stories--such a cute movie!! Then I fell asleep on the couch! Here are some pics of my new bows:

Claire's 18 Month Checkup

Today was Claire's 18 month appointment! She weighed in at 27 lbs. 13 oz. (90th percentile).

She measured 34.5 inches tall (97th percentile).
Her head circumference was 49 cm. (95th percentile).
Dr. Owen said she looked great! Poor girl had 4 shots but got over it pretty quickly.

Today was Ally's very first visit to the dentist!! We had talked and talked about what she should expect before we got there but I could tell she was still nervous. The first thing they did was take a full mouth x-ray of her teeth. I had never seen anything like it! You could see all of her baby teeth but you could also see all of her permanent teeth under her gums waiting to push those baby teeth out! It was so cool!! Then it was time for Ally to get her teeth cleaned! As you can see in this picture she was a bit unsure of what was about to happen.

I kept reassuring her that everything would be ok and she seemed to loosen up a bit.She ended up doing GREAT!!!! They cleaned, brushed, and flossed her teeth. Then they gave her this new type of flouride treatment. It was a foam that she swished around in her mouth for one minute and spit out. Soooo much better than the trays they used to put in our mouths when I was younger!! Then Dr. Seay came in to check out her teeth--no cavities!! He said that she had beautiful teeth and great spacing--perfect for when those permanent teeth come in! Ally was happy and even happier when she got to choose something from the treasure chest!

Tonight we a fun time hanging out with Leah & Christopher at their house. We ordered pizza and made chocolate chip cookies--YUM!! Then Christopher helped me clean my camera and gave me a short lesson on how to better utilize my camera settings. (thank you Christopher!!) Then Ally begged to play the Wii. First up was the Star Wars game!

30 Days 'Til Disney!!

We are sooooo excited!! It's 30 days until our trip to Walt Disney World!!! In celebration, Ally and I made a special Mickey countdown chain. Each day we will remove a link in the chain until we make it up to Mickey's head (the day we leave for WDW)!!!

I also used this time to teach Ally about patterns. I showed her how we were making a color pattern in our chain (red, yellow, black, red, yellow, black, etc.). As I added the links, she was able to tell me what color came next in our pattern.

Tonight was Ally's costume showing at her dance studio. Only mommies and their dancers are allowed. The girls try on each of their costumes and their teacher goes from head to toe telling us how to do their hair, what kind of tights she wants them to wear, how to alter the costume, etc. It also gives a chance for the girls to show us their dance numbers for the recital. It's a fun night!!

Both of Ally's costumes are going to have to be taken in as they are a little loose on her. And did you see the pink bows on the ballet costume?! Uggh! What a pain! So the teacher decided she wanted them to look all uniform and volunteered me to redo everyone's bows. So I have until their picture day on May 2nd to get them done! Fun, fun!!

Today we headed to the mall to meetup with some friends. We spent several hours there and before we left Ally just begged and begged me to do this jumpy thing that was set up by the carousel. I kept telling her that she would be jumping pretty high. I asked her if she was going to freak out once she got on it. She kept insisting that she would not. So I agreed. Can you tell she was excited?!

Today was a busy day! After the birthday party we headed home, had lunch, and then headed to our church's Easter Egg Hunt at 3:00 p.m. We ran into a friend of ours from the dance studio--Madison!! She just LOVES Claire!! She always plays with Claire while Ally is in her dance lesson.

Sweet & Sassy Haircut

I took Ally for a much-needed haircut today at Sweet & Sassy. This is only the 2nd haircut she's had EVER! Her first haircut was last summer and that was hard enough! If you've known Ally since she was a baby, you know that she was bald for quite some time. So when she finally grew some hair, I didn't want to cut it! It took too long to grow those beautiful, long curls!! Anywho, she really enjoyed being pampered today at Sweet & Sassy. First, they washed her hair--she chose chocolate shampoo and orange conditioner. She smelled soooo good!!

Then it was time for the haircut! The girl took off several inches and cut layers around her face. Ally enjoying herself At the end she got to choose some cotton candy glitter spray for her hair, a lollipop, and a temporary tatoo. I was super happy with the way her hair loooked--so healthy and pretty!!

Kindergarten Preregistration

This morning I took Ally up to Arlington Elementary for Kindergarten Preregistration. We went with my friend Buffy and her daughter Peyton (who is also starting Kindergarten in August).

(it is VERY cold here today and super windy--in the 40s--we had to pull our winter coats back out!)

We got there around 10:45 a.m., filled out all of the paperwork, and gave them copies of Ally's birth certificate, social security card, and shot record. Then we signed in and met my friend Ashley (Mrs. Addison) at the cafeteria. If you remember, back in February we came to visit Ashley--she is a Kindergarten teacher. Today we introduced her to Peyton and she took us all on another tour of the school.

We took a tour of the Kindergarten hallway and then picked up Ashley's class from the cafeteria. Once we got back to the classroom the students shared with us their favorite things about Kindergarten.

Then we left and had lunch with Buffy & Peyton at Lenny's. When we got home Ally wanted to check out the folder they gave us at Preregistration.

The folder included a welcome letter from the AES Kindergarten teachers, a checklist for registration in August, 2 articles about preparing for Kindergarten, letter and number flashcards, cutting/tracing/coloring/gluing sheets, handwriting pages, and May-July calendars with fun activities for them to do each day to prepare.

Ally is super excited about starting Kindergarten!! I just can't believe that it's almost time to send her! (sniff, sniff) Where has the time gone?!

Ally's Kindergarten Physical

This morning I took Ally for her Kindergarten physical. I had talked to her beforehand to prepare her for what was going to happen. And I am so glad I did! She did great and was sooo brave!!

The first thing they did was weigh her--52 lbs! (95th percentile)

Then they measured her--44.5 inches tall! (95th percentile)
Then the lab nurse came in and pricked Ally's finger (she didn't cry at all) and had Ally pee in a cup. Next Dr. Owen came in and said that her weight and height were proportionate and that she was very tall for her age (always has been)! He checked her from head to toe and said that she looked great!!

Then the nurse ran hearing and vision tests on Ally--Ally passed both with flying colors!! And then--the SHOTS!! Ally knew they were coming but when the nurse pulled them out she started to cry. She remained calm and she hugged me and her Bitty Baby while the nurse gave her FOUR shots! We sang Jesus Loves Me out loud and the nurse was finshed before we were done with the song. She composed herself and was ready to go--but not before she gave Dr. Owen his special picture!! Then we headed over to the mall and I let her pick something special at the Disney Store. She chose Tinkerbell & Silvermist!

I was very proud of Ally today! It's hard to believe that my baby is starting Kindergarten in August (sniff, sniff)!

A Visit With the Easter Bunny!

Today I took the girls to the mall to see the Easter Bunny. I was anxious to see how Claire would react. I thought it would definitely give me an indication of how she might respond to the different characters at Disney World. Suprisingly she was very loving and friendly towards the Easter Bunny.

After the birthday party we met my parents at the mall. I chose a new bag for our Disney trip!! I have read so many great things about the Vera Bradley hipsters that I had to check them out. I just LOVE Vera Bradley bags--my current purse is VB and Claire's diaper bag was a VB, etc. I wanted a different pattern from what I had already (Mod Floral Pink). I finally decided on one of the new patterns--Cupcake Pink! Check it out!! I LOVE my new bag!

Gaither Vocal Band/Signature Sound Concert

Tonight we took Ally to her very 1st Gaither Homecoming Concert. It was at the Desoto Civic Center in Southaven, MS (an hour drive from our house). My parents came to stay with Claire while we went to the concert (thank you Mom & Dad)! So we drove down to MS, ate dinner, and headed over to the concert around 6:00 p.m.

We decided to walk around and check out the booths before the concert started. We were so excited to run into 3 of the 4 members of Signature Sound (Tim, Doug, & Ryan--not sure where Ernie was)!! Ally just had to get her picture taken with them! I told her we would have to Photoshop Ernie's head into the picture! :)
They were so very nice and gave Ally a special light with their picture on it. (Ally used it throughout the concert, holding her light in the air and waving it to the music!!)

The concert started at 7:00 p.m. and lasted until 11:00 p.m.!! The first hour was different Homecoming friends/soloists.

Then came Signature Sound!! Ally was sooo excited! She just LOVES this group (she calls them the "singing boys").

Disney Planning Fun!!

I wanted to share with you what I got in the mail yesterday!! So exciting because I rarely get things for ME! I saw a post last week on the DISboards (http://www.disboards.com/) about Disney Crocs being on sale and I ended up taking advantage of the great prices. I ordered 2 pairs for me and 1 each for the girls from http://www.crocs.com/. Well, I saw a pair on their website that I loved (the brown/pink Disney MJ's) so I searched elsewhere for them. I ended up finding them in my size and on sale at http://www.surfanddirt.com/!! I ordered them last Wed. and they arrived last night. (My Crocs shipment isn't due for delivery until Friday!) I wore them today and I just LOVE the way they fit/feel. I have several other pairs of Crocs (regular style) but this is my first time buying the MJ's for myself. I'm so glad that I decided to order them!! (the ones I ordered from crocs.com were the black/red and the l.pink/h.pink pairs) Take a look!Today I also worked on my Disney binder. Here is a pic of the front (still working on organizing the inside which will have pretty much everything for our trip--confirmation #s, ADRs, map & info on our resort, map & info on each park, touring plans, daily schedules, etc.): If you know me that well, you know I love planning and organization! So I'm thoroughly enjoying every minute of the planning process. I'm one of those people that wants to know everything about what I'm doing/planning. My friend Amy (our "fairy godmother" from the previous post) had another little surprise for the girls today! In Sunday School this morning she gave me 2 princess lollipops from Disney World--she told me to give them to the girls and to tell them that they were from the princesses!! So I gave Ally hers this afternoon after church--more excitement!! (I will have to wait and give Claire hers when I can supervise her better with it. Lollipops and 17 month olds can get VERY messy and sticky!! And I am not one for big messes!!)

Sunday School Wii Night

Tonight we had a Sunday School Wii Night at the Whitworth's house. Childcare was provided at the church from 7:00-10:00 p.m.--whoo hoo!! So we dropped the kiddos off at the church and headed to John & Katina's. Everyone brought desserts and coffee to share. Then we headed upstairs to play the Wii. It was soooo much fun!! We started the night with a dance game.

A Postcard From Cinderella!!

Today Ally & Claire received a special note from Cinderella in the mail!!! For them to receive mail PERIOD is SUPER exciting and then for it to be from Cinderella--be still my heart! The excitement on their faces said it all. (My friend Amy was in Disney World this past week and I asked her to be a "fairy godmother" for the girls--she even signed the postcard by trying to emulate Cinderella's signature--how authentic!!)

Spring Break

This week is the girl's Spring Break and I feel bad because we've only been out of the house to go to church tonight. You see, I hurt my foot running last Friday and have had to stay off of it. I had this bright idea that I would try running (haven't done this since high school volleyball). I'm at a plateau with my weight loss so I thought I'd try something different. I found this program that eases you into running called Couch to 5K (http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml). So I thought I'd give it a try. The first week you do a 5 minute warm-up walk--then you start running for 1 minute and then walk a minute and a half. This lasts for 20 minutes and then you do a 5 minute cool-down walk. I did all of this on my treadmill--walked at 4 mph and ran at 5 mph. I had my Walt Disney World map on my treadmill for motivation and my list of when to run/walk. I felt great during the workout and it wan't until after I got off of the treadmill that my foot started to hurt. It is my right foot on the outside of my foot right above my arch. It just feels incredibly sore and it hurts to stand/walk on it. It doesn't hurt when I sit down. It is finally starting to feel better--thank goodness!! It's just incredibly frustrating!! I took the time to go to Breakaway Running, had them analyze my feet on a computer, and fit me into some new running shoes before I even started the program. Then on the 2nd day of doing it, I hurt myself! I don't think I'm going to try running again--at least not until we get back from Disney World in May. I don't want to run the risk of hurting my foot any worse. I have to be able to walk around Disney World. Ugggh!!

Spring Consignment Sale Time!!

Let me share with you what I've been working on the past week and a half--preparing spring/summer clothes for consignment. Every spring and every fall I consign the girl's clothes in the Sycamore View Church of Christ Consignment Sale (http://www.svccs.com/). It's a big undertaking but VERY worth it!

This sale I had several sizes to consign but mostly 6-12 mo, 2T, 3T, 4T, and some 5T
In preparation for the sale I had to iron the clothes, hang the clothes on wire hangers, price them, and tag them.

I ended up having 206 items (including our high chair)

Since I worked a shift during the sale, I received 85% of my sales. I was able to check my sales online during the sale because everything is automated with barcodes. Tonight I went to work my shift and pick up my clothes and check. I made over $1,000!!! Definitely worth my time! Can't wait for the next sale in August!!

Snow Day #3!!

Ok--so it was in the 70's here this past week and then yesterday it starts to snow--and it snows--and it snows some more!! I have not seen this much snow in a LONG time!! By the time the snow stopped we had 8.5 inches--the most snow Memphis has seen since the 1960's!! So we headed out this morning to enjoy it and only lasted about 5 minutes.

Claire so badly wants to be just like her big sister, Ally. It is just the cutest thing!! Just recently she has been insisting on brushing her own teeth and standing on Ally's stool while she brushes. Isn't she just precious?! She takes this very seriously!!

Disney Dinner Reservations--Booked!!

Kindergartener For A Day!

Today was an exciting day for Ally! (more on that in a minute) First, Ally wanted to share the award she received yesterday in preschool for knowing her telephone number and address.

Ok--onto today! My friend Ashley (who goes to church with us and is in my Sunday School Class) invited Ally to visit her classroom at Arlington Elementary. Ashley is a Kindergarten teacher at AES and thought it would be fun for Ally to see what being a kindergartener is like (since she'll be starting K in August). Ally was so excited!

We arrived at AES at 11:00 a.m. and signed in at the office. We sat down on the benches outside of the cafeteria to wait for Ashley and her class. As we were waiting our friend Brandy Robertson came out of the office to speak to us (she is the Special Ed Secretary). Then Ashley came around the corner with her class. We walked with them into the cafeteria, dropped her class off at lunch, and then headed back to Ashley's classroom.On the way back to her classroom we met several of the other Kindergarten teachers: Mrs. Hollingsworth, Mrs. Grimes, Mrs. Wiseman, and Mrs. Orman. They were so welcoming and kind and invited us into their classrooms to look around. Many of the kids wondered if Ally was a new student! Once we got back to Ashley's classroom she gave Ally a quick tour of her room.

Then Ashley took us to look at the gym and the library. Ashley's mom, Mrs. Cathy, is the library assistant. She was so happy to see us! She introduced us to the librarian, Mrs. Inman. Mrs. Inman stopped her class to welcome Ally--she was so nice!! Then it was time to pick up Ashley's class from lunch. When we got to the classroom, it was time for math! They were learning about the number 13 today and putting the numbers in sequence. Ashley held up the number 13 and asked Ally if she knew what it was--Ally identified it immediately! Then she had Ally and several other students hold up numbers. She mixed them up and had the class put the numbers in the correct order.

Then she sent the kids to their tables to do a sheet tracing and writing the number 13.

On the back of the sheet the kids were to cut halves of a heart, count the dots, and glue them next to the correct number. Ally had no trouble completing the assignment and got all of the answers right!!
I took a close-up of Ally's name so I could remember what it looked like at this writing stage.

I was able to check out the reading curriculum while the kids worked. When I taught Kindergarten (almost 5 years ago) we had the Letterbook curriculum. This new program is much improved especially with the addition of a Guided Reading Program with leveled books. I was excited to see it (my thesis for my Masters Program was all about integrating Guided Reading into the classroom).

The kids took a bathroom break and Ally was able to see how the kids were expected to behave in the hallway. Ashley has wonderful classroom management so Ally was able to see some good examples of how kindergartners are to behave. Then we said our goodbyes around 12:30 p.m. and took some pictures outside of the school. Look at how the sun is hitting Ally in this picture. It looks like there is a spotlight shining down on her!

Thank you Ashley for allowing us to visit! Ally had the BEST time! If she could start Kindergarten tomorrow she would! :)

I was very happy that the Steelers ended up beating the Cardinals (barely). You see--I could NOT cheer for the Cardinals because they beat my Eagles. I think we all ended up watching the last few minutes of the game because it was so close and exciting!!

Today we went to the mall to eat lunch and deliver bows. We ran into some friends from MOPS, ate lunch with them, and then rode the carousel. I decided to let Claire ride for the first time and she LOVED it!! I did not have my camera so I used my new phone to take a picture. I think it turned out pretty well!!

Yes, I said NEW phone!! I got the Blackberry Storm that I've been wanting 2 weeks ago today! I just love love LOVE it!! It has e-mail, internet, Facebook, a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash, etc. I'm still learning everything it does but I am really enjoying how easy it is to text on this touch-screen phone! On my old phone I would have to press the # buttons several times just to get ONE letter. I would get so mad that I'd just give up. Now it's soooo very easy!! Check out the pic of my old phone vs. my new one!! What a difference!! I am absolutely amazed at how far technology has come!

Pajama & Pizza Day

Ally was very concerned when she woke up this morning because there was still snow on the ground. She ran into my bathroom where I was getting ready and asked, "Do we have school today?" When I said yes she started jumping up and down. You see, today is pajama and pizza day at preschool in celebration of letter "P". She did NOT want to miss it!!

All the way home she told me about the "P" foods they had eaten today: peaches and pink lemonade for snack, pizza and pudding for lunch, and popcorn while they watched the Veggie Tales DVD David and the Giant Pickle.

Since church was cancelled tonight we decided to watch the new Gaither Vocal Band Reunion DVD. We just love the "singing boys" as Ally calls them and this DVD did not disappoint. The girls grabbed their microphones and joined in as were entertained!

A Visit From Flat Stanley

We received this letter in the mail a few days ago (along with Flat Stanley--a children's book character that you can read about in the letter). The letter was from our friend's son, Ben, in Huntsville, AL. His 2nd grade class was sending them to different cities to learn about weather, tourist attractions, and occupations.

The girls were so excited so we documented our adventures with Flat Stanley.

In the midst of all the excitement of snow, today was also the inauguration of our new President Barack Obama. It was a very historic day as we watched the very first African American take the oath of office. I know some people don't always agree with his views, beliefs, etc. but I am encouraged in knowing that God is still in total control.

Since I know that many of you are moms like me, I wanted to share with you a letter written to Michelle Obama. It was written by Jean Stockdale who is the leader of the MOMS Bible Study at Bellevue Baptist. She is a Christian author of bible studies for moms, a women's conference and retreat speaker, and a Bible teacher. I had the honor of participating in her bible study Proverbs and Principles for Parenting Practically Perfect Progeny at our church this past summer. Jean is an awesome lady so check out her letter to Michelle Obama:

Dear Michelle

This letter carries a commitment to pray for you and your family as you prepare to take up residence in the White House. I can only imagine the dramatic changes you are facing. As the First Family, you are about to move into a "glass house." The glare of the spotlight will be intense.

Right or wrong, your family life will be put under the microscope of public opinion. While your girls did not ask for the scrutiny that will accompany their father's presidency, there is no denying that they will feel the effects of it. So what's a mom to do?

I would like to offer you some advice in the fine art of Christian mothering from the Book of Proverbs and from one mom's heart to another.

First, honor your husband. Be loving and supportive to him. Prov. 31:11 says, "The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good and not evil all the days of her life. (NASV)"

Your husband always needs to know you are in his corner, but he will especially need your support during the demanding days of his administration. And your girls need the security of knowing that although much in their lives has changed, your love for their daddy has not.

Second, cherish your children. Demonstrate a Godly example for your children because our examples impact them most. Live an uncompromising lifestyle before them.

Prov. 31:25-27 says, "Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she smiles at the future. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household."

Finally, your greatest legacy in the lives of your children will be the Godly influence of your love for the Lord Jesus Christ. "Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised (Prov. 31:30)."

As our next "Mother-in-Chief," I pray the Lord blesses and keeps you. In closing, may "The Lord make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace. (Num. 6:24-26)"

Snow Day!

We woke up this morning to some pretty heavy snow! It was really coming down so I turned on the news to see if schools were closed. I was surprised to see that they weren't really discussing it (which is really weird for Memphis--usually at even the suggestion of snow the city shuts down). They just don't know how to deal with snow here. So I proceeded to get the girls ready for Mother's Day Out. I thought this Gymbo shirt was perfect for the occasion.

Then we headed outside to take some quick pictures before school.
And then this happened and Claire had had enough. It was time to go inside.

We were a few minutes late to school. Ally's shoes, socks, and jeans were soaking wet so she had to change clothes. Then there was a wreck on the road we always take. They had the road blocked so we had to turn around and take a detour. By noon all of the snow had melted. It was nice while it lasted!

Martin Luther King Day

Happy Martin Luther King Day!! Brent did not have to work today so we spent the day together as a family. We headed to the mall (one of our favorite places).

Claire's 15 Month Checkup

I took Claire to the doctor today for her 15 month checkup. She weighed in at 25 lbs. 10 oz. (75th percentile). She measured 33 in. tall (above 95th percentile) and her head measured 48 cm. around (95th percentile). She received 4 shots today including an MMR and Polio. Up to this point we've only been to the doctor for well visits--she has never been sick (Praise the Lord for that)!! Our next visit will be for her 18 month checkup! My baby is growing up too fast!!

My Laptop Issues

I just wanted to apologize for the lack of updates this past month. My laptop went on the fritz in early December. Thankfully the problem was still covered under warranty from HP. However, I had to wait on Best Buy to get all of my data off of my laptop and then there was a week long delay in receiving the shipping box from HP. I was upset because I knew I wouldn't have my laptop the 2 weeks we'd be gone for Christmas. Then Brent got a message on his cell phone while we were away that they had tried to deliver the laptop 3 times to our home and that they'd be shipping it BACK to HP! Uggh!! Hello--it's Christmas--many people are OUT OF TOWN for the holidays!! So they finally track down my laptop and tell me I'd receive it later this week. Well, it FINALLY was delivered to me today!! So needless to say I've been so lost without it. You don't realize how necessary something is until it's gone! So every once in awhile I was able to get on my mom's or Brent's laptop. I feel so out of touch with everything--having withdrawals from Facebook, mommy groups, e-mail, and most importantly my precious blog!! I have finally finshed updating my blog so please check out the 7 new posts below!!

Christmas in Alabama

Yesterday we flew from Philly back to Birmingham. Our flight leaving Philly was delayed an hour and a half and they told us we would not make our connecting flight from Memphis to Birmingham. So they went ahead and put us on the later flight--7:48 p.m.!! (we were supposed to LAND in B'ham at 3:15 p.m. so this meant we would have to spend 5 1/2 hours in the Memphis airport--fun for all!!) When we finally arrived in Memphis we found out that our original flight to B'ham was delayed until 5:30 p.m. So Brent jumped in line to see if he could get us booked on that flight. As he was talking to the lady at the counter they made an announcement that they had just CANCELLED the flight! Boy were we glad that we still had our tickets for the later flight!! The later flight was already full with a waiting list so many people were having to rent cars or stay the night at the airport. So we headed to our gate and watched the Eagles/Cowboys game--the Eagles stomped all over the Cowboys--go Eagles!! At that point we were all getting restless and I was exhausted from chasing Claire. So we ate BBQ sandwiches from Corky's and waited some more. Finally it was time to get on the plane! The flight was about an hour and we landed in B'ham around 9:00 p.m. Brent's mom was there to pick us up. We drove the hour back to Jasper and got home around 10:00 p.m. Ally was so disappointed that we would have to wait until the morning to open presents.

So this morning we had our Christmas with Brent's family--his parents, 2 sisters and their families.

NYC & American Girl Place

Today we took the train into New York City to visit the American Girl Place (this was our 1st trip to an AGP and Ally's first time in NYC--we've been several times). Uncle Paul, Aunt Marcy, and the girls offered to keep Claire for the day. Boy was I glad they did! (you'll read why later in this post) We took the 9:36 a.m. train from Hamilton, NJ to Penn Station.

It was a 75 minute ride into NYC on the Express Train. We arrived at Penn Station around 11 a.m. and then took the Subway 4 stops to American Girl. We walked a few blocks to the store and were sooo excited when we spotted the red awnings! (Brent couldn't believe I stopped in the middle of a busy NYC street to take this picture!!)

At this point Dad, David, & Brent split off from us girls (I'm not sure why they didn't want to spend all day in a doll store!! :)) So in we went (Mom, Aunt Norma, Ally, & me). Right as we walked in Ally had to have her picture taken in front of this Kit display!
It was around 11:30 a.m. when we arrived so we headed to see our Personal Shopper, Robyn (I highly recommend this FREE service to anyone who visits an AGP! Our PS was sooo very helpful! Check out this link for more info: http://www.americangirl.com/stores/experience_shopping.php). She gave us the rundown of the store, etc., we checked our coats, and then headed to the 3rd floor to get Ally's picture made at the Photo Studio (she picked the photo on the magazine cover). The photographer showed her how to properly style her doll's hair--with a spray bottle, water, and an AG brush. The photo turned out GREAT!!Then we headed out to the Bitty Baby and Bitty Twin area. There was a line already forming for the Cafe lunch so we decided to go ahead and get in line.

We had reservations for a 12:30 lunch (which I made 6 months in advance). The lunch was incredible!! There was soooo much to eat!!

As we were seated, Mia was given a treat seat to sit in and her own cup & saucer (doll-sized of course!!)--sooo cute!!

Our waitress was great with Ally and very attentive!! They had hairbands on the napkins & flowers in the mousse that Ally was allowed to keep--sooo fun!!

This is where they keep the treat seats and extra dolls that anyone can borrow if they didn't bring their own!

The lunch lasted about an hour. We decided that since we were on the top floor, we'd shop from the top of the store to the bottom.

Each historical doll had a big window that displayed their clothes, accessories, animals, books, etc. They also had a window set up as a replica of that time period. It was like walking through a museum!

We saw everything!! We shopped and shopped! They had a lot of great deals (end of the season deals). Ally was in awe the entire time and so was I!! The store became more and more crowded as the day went on. I was so glad that I had scheduled a Personal Shopper because it made shopping so much easier!! So around 4:00 p.m. we headed back to the Personal Shopper Lounge and went through everything. Robyn gave Ally a bunch of goodies--a Mia poster, AG word searches, stickers, and a cd.

We left the store and met up with Brent, Dad, and David. We headed over to Rockefeller Center and spent some time taking pictures over there.

Once we arrived at Penn Station we decided to take the 5:56 p.m. train but had to wait until 10 minutes prior before they told us at which track the train would be arriving. Once we knew the track # we headed down the stairs and the chaos began!!! I have never seen so many people in one place--it was SCARY! Everyone was pushing and shoving and I could barely breathe! I was clinging to my Dad's arm in fear that we'd get separated. Thankfully Brent carried Ally. I honestly thought I was going to have a panic attack. Then we finally headed through a door which took us on an escalator down to the train track. It was insane!! We were going down and the people who had gotten off at the bottom were at a stand still. So everyone headed down the escalator were being pushed into them at full force. I thought we were going to be trampled! Then everyone pushed their way to the track and people were running to the train. Ally lost her shoe in all of the madness but thankfully a nice man found it and handed it to us. The train was about to leave and we had to run to the front to find a seat--we almost lost David in all of the madness. Boy was I glad to get on the train!! There were only seats for us ladies and the guys had to stand. After we calmed down, we enjoyed a peaceful ride back to NJ.

We arrived at Uncle Paul & Aunt Marcy's house around 8:00 p.m. to pick Claire up and then headed to get a late dinner. I am so thankful that we decided not to take Claire with us--it would have been torture with the crowds. But I'm so glad we were able to go into the city today!! The experience was UNFORGETTABLE!! I know it is a day that Ally & I will cherish forever!!
